About us

Jorge Avila, M.D. I am a bi-lingual, board-certified psychiatrist. I am board-certified in General Adult Psychiatry, Child Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine.

I am a native of El Paso, TX who graduated from Cathedral High School. My undergraduate Biological Sciences degree is from the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL. I studied medicine in a bi- lingual setting at Universidad Central Del Caribe, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. I did two years of post-graduate residency training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA and completed internal medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. I then completed the University of Florida’s General Psychiatry residency and fellowships in Addiction Medicine and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. After two years as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Florida’s Department of Psychiatry, I returned to El Paso to be near my family and to serve my community.
Since returning to El Paso I have served as a Staff Psychiatrist for the local Mental Health Authority and a served in Medical Directorship for a local mental health hospitals’ Dual Diagnosis/ Rehabilitation/Detoxification Unit and have also participated in a collaborative tele-psychiatry practice.
At AVILA PSYCHIATRY we care for the whole person by taking a delicate, hands-on approach to mental health. We strive to care for the biological, psychological, social and spiritual (from a 12- step perspective) aspects of the human person. Our integrated model of care approaches treatment from diverse perspectives: the well-being of the patient, family dynamics, traditional medication management, and therapeutic modalities or referrals.
